Rancho Sabina DesGeorges (Parcel C) is a proposed as a site for environmentally sound and affordable housing development located in the high-desert "purple sage" mesa area. Situated approximately 25 minutes west of Taos and eight minutes from the Taos Regional Airport, this location offers a rare balance of accessibility and seclusion. Locally known as part of West Rim Road in certain stretches, CB-115, this road is a primary paved roadway. Sunset Boulevard, a residential road intersecting CB-115, is renowned for its expansive mountain views, including the majestic Sangre de Cristo range. The land carries a deep legacy, having transitioned from the ancestral home of indigenous peoples to a territory of Spain, and later a part of the First Mexican Republic. Following the Mexican-American War, it became a U.S. territory before finally achieving statehood in 1912. This rich cultural crossroads is mirrored by a vibrant ecosystem; the landscape is dominated by big sagebrush, winterfat, and blue grama grass, which give the mesa its iconic silvery-purple hue. The area serves as a vital corridor for local wildlife. It is common to see mule deer and pronghorn antelope grazing across the flats, while black-tailed jackrabbits and the occasional Greater Roadrunner dart through the brush. Above the nearby Rio Grande Gorge, red-tailed hawks and golden eagles hunt on the thermals, while the surrounding piñon-juniper stands provide cover for elk, mountain lions, bobcats, and American badgers. At dusk, the mesa comes alive with the calls of Piñon Jays and the evening songs of resident coyotes.
