Above the nearby Rio Grande Gorge, red-tailed hawks and golden eagles hunt on the thermals, while the surrounding piñon-juniper stands provide cover for elk, mountain lions, bobcats, and American badgers. At dusk, the mesa comes alive with the calls of Piñon Jays and the evening songs of resident coyotes.
