Description
This two-story adobe hotel in Southwestern New Mexico was built in the late 1800s. Originally serving soldiers of the famed Buffalo Soldier Regiments of the U.S. Cavalry stationed at nearby Historic Fort Bayard, today this historic property is located in the village of Santa Clara, New Mexico. Santa Clara is a community known for directing its own renaissance. This property is also located at a gateway to the Gila Wilderness and just 10 minutes away from the arts and cultural district of Silver City, New Mexico. Many park and bike trails near and around the hotel have already been constructed to connect Silver City, Santa Clara and Bayard, New Mexico. The Hotel is located near the southern edge of the Gila Wilderness Area; the largest in New Mexico and one of the few wilderness areas protected from motorized vehicles and roads. Infrastructure improvements include a Gavalume steel roof with a historically correct pattern. The interior floor has been rebuilt and supported with concrete footers creating space for new mechanical and electrical utilities for any future use - restaurant, gallery, hotel, or other commercial use. The interior adobe walls of the Hotel on the first level have been supported with framing studs to provide space for additional insulation, wiring and plumbing. Natural log timber beams/vigas harvested from forest restoration projects have been installed to support the hotels upper level.
